The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters Review

The Korean style 2D horror The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters from Devespresso was released for the Switch and PS4 earlier this year and has finally made it’s way for Xbox fans to try. This creepy hand drawn side scrolling adventure offers horror like you never seem before. Although dark and disfiguring, The Coma 2 has some nasty tricks up it’s sleeve. Between jump scares and problem solving, to out running horrific style monsters The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters picks up the blood and slams it in your face.

“Mina Park, a student of Sehwa High, awakens at night in her school. It isn’t long before she realizes that something is amiss. The once-familiar school where she spends her evenings studying looks twisted by something dark and sinister.”

You play the part of a young high school girl who falls into a coma and is suddenly surrounded by a disturbing and gruesome version of reality. Trapped, you must search the areas for clues and items to help you progress through the story. The world is set on layers and has you running through schools and police stations up and down stairwells with specific doorways that lead to other areas.

Surrounded by mangled bodies and big piles of flesh you search hoping to find a key, a phone, or even a lighter to help you find your way. As you progress you will run into your friends and people you know from reality but it doesn’t seem like them anymore. One man chases you down with giant butcher knives. Another chases you down and just slashes the skin of your very body – eventually you will meet a variety of characters. Enemies lie half torn apart on the ground and will slash at you also given the chance. Big demon-like hands dangle from the roof just waiting for you to walk underneath. You need to be wary of your surroundings.

The art style is amazing, all hand drawn and seems to just flow together nicely. As your character runs for her life you can tell the quality and passion thrown into this title and it looks quite beautiful as far as a horror title goes. During the adventure you also have the ability to hide underneath tables and lockers which will become necessary because if you hear those footsteps you will either need to run, hide or meet your fate, which is rather unforgiving and gives you little time to think about your next move. Scavenging for items like candy bars and water bottles can also determine life or death as if you take enough damage you may never wake up.

The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters is a great horror experience. With hand crafted visuals and a passion for the development this title should give the player a couple hours of gruesome entertainment filled with blood, sweat and tears. It’s great to see a 2D side scrolling title like this. It works well and I hope to see more.
