Gioteck TX-50 Headset Review

Manufacturer: Gioteck
Where to Buy: Game
RRP: £29.99

This is Giotecks wired headset with an emphasis on premium materials and quality audio with superior comfort at an affordable price. They are suitable for consoles and computers, but pretty much any device that has a 3.5mm jack you could use these with. I tested the Xbox-orientated version; they are all black but feature a green outlining and rubberised green Gioteck logo at the top of the headset. Design is obviously a factor when choosing the right headset and these look the part, but how does it hold up across the board?

Well, I would say the main factors when choosing the right headset is how comfortable it feels and the quality of the audio. These feel very comfortable on my head and, more importantly, my ears. It has distinct diamond shape cups which feel nice on your ears without the pressure a lot of these headsets tend to have. Usually with large headsets like this, after a gaming session my ears can feel sore from the constant pressure and – this might be personal to me – it leaves my ears feeling super warm and uncomfortable, but this doesn’t happen here. They initially do feel like they could be heavy on the head like most of over-ear headsets do, but I used them for a gaming session of a few hours and to record a podcast and when I was done I didn’t suffer any discomfort, so a big thumbs up as far as how comfortable they are.

The audio quality for me is as decent as it can get. I know connoisseurs of audio quality can dive deeper but for me as long as the basics are covered then I am happy. The headset has a volume dial on the cable so you can get the appropriate level fine-tuned. The volume range is vast and even with the audio volume half up on the Xbox and dial not fully up on the headset, that was plenty loud enough for me. That leaves a lot of room to crank it up if you need to (not too loud though – you wouldn’t want to damage you’re ears now… like I have – ed) but it does mean there is a lot of room to manoeuvre. I never suffered from crackly audio, feedback, humming or whistling through the headset. The microphone is very flexible and so can be adjusted for exactly how you want it. Hearing the audio back from my microphone sounded just as good as any other headset. My gaming friends could hear me loud and clear with my testing.

For adjustability, the headset can be adjusted for bigger and smaller heads. It is stiff to adjust which is good and bad as it means it should stretch or constrict on its own which can happen if it is a little loose. The cable length is fine for however you choose to use it and the only small gripe I have with it is with the mute sliding switch. The small casing where the volume dial and mute switcher is has a clip which you can attach to yourself, but the sliding switch isn’t that easy to do single-handed while we’re still trying to hold the controller. I also tried to do it whilst clipped to my top and trying to mute single-handed I more often than not just ended up unclipping it from my top. Like I said a very minor gripe but on the plus side as it is not a button there is very little room to accidentally mute yourself which I have done on occasion with push-button muting.

Conclusion

The TX-50 headset is everything you need from a fair priced, wired headset. I found it very comfortable even after prolonged usage and the audio quality was just perfect for me. The adjustable mic was the most flexible one I have used and made it easy to get the positioning right and move out the way when was just using them as headphones. My only gripes are with the mute switch and that it can feel a little heavy but that’s the same with all big headsets and better that than it be too easy to knock.
