Cloud gaming controllers can be very hit and miss. Either the triggers are too spongy, the analog sticks aren’t tight enough or you have to remove your phone case.
Finally though, I’ve found a controller that allows you to keep your phone case on, is small and compacted when not being used and best of all feels like an Xbox controller.
When you first start you need to measure your top and bottom of your phone with the “measuring card”. This allows you to find the correct inserts as these help stabilise your phone in the Gamevice Flex case. Once you’ve found your correct fit, insert your phone and game on. It can be a little fiddly to find and insert the little plastic parts but once you’ve done it, it’s game time.
Using the game pad is great, feeling as close to an official Xbox controller as possible really. The feel and response from the buttons and analog sticks was very good. Once you’ve finished you can take you phone out and clip it together and it turns into a small game pad.
A couple of neat things to note as well, you can charge your phone with a Lightning cable pass through and it has a 3.5mm jack for headphones.
One thing I’d like to see would be an official carry case for this. When taking things like this out and about I feel much happier when I know it’s protected but for now there seems to only be third party options.
Conclusion
The Gamevice Flex is an excellent cloud gaming solution for the iPhone market. It’s has a solid, comfortable feel, can accommodate the phone and all manner of cases, and also lets you charge while playing with the cable pass through.
