I recently got a chance to check out some in-ear, wired buds from Final – the VR500’s – and despite preferring over ear in my day to day life, these have proven to be a decent option both for price and comfort. They’ve also allowed me to play on the ROG Xbox Ally X while lying in bed far easier than with my over ear ones, and the sound quality is better than I have experienced from other in-ear buds.

At £29.99, they are cheaper than a lot of other sets out there, and though this does mean they are lacking a few features (such as no built in volume buttons) that doesn’t mean these feel or sound cheap in use.
Quite the opposite in fact. In the box we get the headphones, along with five various sized caps to swap out as needed. I found them comfortable to wear for extended play sessions, and other than the cable hanging out barely even noticed they were there the majority of the time. I do feel the cable is a touch short, maybe another 100mm would have made a good difference. As it is, I found it occasionally could get tugged as I’m moving about with my phone in my pocket.
Sound quality is good too for what we get here. Bass has a decent kick, and when paired with Dolby Atmos (honestly, the only way you should be hearing almost anything imo) the sense of surround sound is decent. I’m quite spoiled in having a few pairs of very expensive, high end headphones, and while these obviously can’t match the range of those, I still found the VR500’s to have a surprisingly good range for the highs and lows of my audio in games.

Whether it was the excellent Tides of Tomorrow or my go to Fortnite, I was able to pick out distinct audio like speech or another player rounding a corner well enough. And while there are no built in volume buttons, they do go quite loud indeed when the audio source is maxed out. It does include a mic and mute button though for calls or in game chat which is not the clearest in quality for calls or chat, but it works well enough if you don’t have any other options to hand.
And again, these have been great when paired with the ROG Xbox Ally X, even fitting nicely into my carry case for it which saves a lot of space in my bag as I go about my travels.
Conclusion
Overall, the VR500’s are a decent option for in-ear headphones. Sound quality is good, they are comfortable for even long sessions, and they come with a good range of sized buds to swap out as needed. A slightly longer cable would have been nice, as would built in volume buttons, but for less than £30 we can’t really argue considering alternatives can be a lot pricier.
