The Edifier G2II headphones are, quite simply, excellent. Offering up incredible virtual 7.1 sound and super comfortable materials and design, those of us who game on PC regularly would do well to check these out.
Let’s start with the key aspect; the audio. It’s bloody brilliant, quite frankly. The virtual 7.1 surround sound was instantly noticeable compared to my go to headphones for PC gaming, with the full texture and depth of the audio coming across excellently. Playing F.E.A.R, I found myself fully immersed in that games terrifying atmosphere with ease, the creaks and groans of unseen apparitions coming across crystal clear. And when the action kicked off I was impressed by the sheer booming nature of the bass as things explode, or guns rattle their rounds off. I also decided to check out an old favourite, The Stanley Parable. This might not be the action packed game, but the G2II managed to give the Narrator’s voice that much more punch and weight as he was mocking my decisions, or passively threatening me for pressing the incorrect button.

Voice chat works wonderfully too; playing some Project Winter, I was able to chat with the other players easily, and recording a voice sample showed that the mic was picking my voice up with great clarity. It’s detachable too which is nice, and the volume/mute controls are on the in-line cable in a nicely sized little break out box. This box also features the toggle for the RGB lighting that adorns the side of the ear cups – not that we get to see it while in use, but I am a bit of a sucker for extra lights on stuff.
Speaking of the aesthetics, the G2II is a pretty good looking headset. The soft leatherette ear cups are very comfy, and are of a decent size so as to sit over the ear, while the headband itself has a good range of movement to allow for a lot of head sizes. The white body in the unit I was sent does come across a little plastic-y and overly shiny in comparison to the rest of the unit, but not so much that it ruins the overall aesthetic.
This headset connects via USB only, which is great for PC game time, but that does mean that it can’t be used for much else i.e on Xbox, or plugged into a mobile phone. But if you’re primarily a PC player, then I highly recommend checking these out when you’re next in the market for some new cans. The cable is of a decent length too, so it should accommodate set ups fairly easily.
Conclusion
As stated at the start of this review the Edifier G2II headphones are excellent. For just shy of £50 you get fantastic audio quality and comfort, albeit strictly to be used on PC. The depth to the sound is incredible, letting us hear the fine details clearly in amongst some of the more bombastic effects happening at the same time. The detachable mic works wonderfully, and the in-line controls are easy to find and use to keep track of volume/mic mute. Plus, the RGB lighting is always a cool add, even if we can’t see it.
