Gioteck VP-1 Viper Premium Cable Pack Review

Manufacturer:Gioteck
Where to Buy: Game
RRP: £16.99

This is Giotecks offering of a duo cable pack containing a USB-C charging cable and a 2.1 HDMI Cable. These two cables are the must-haves for the future of next-gen gaming. They are suited to both the new Playstation and, in our case, the new Xbox.

First, the Viper USB-C charging cable. Now, this cable although states it’s assumed purpose is for charging the next-gen controllers with high speed. It can also serve to charge up modern mobile phones which are also USB-C compatible. The cable itself is very robust in its braided design and also has the Viper shaped design plugs on the end. I first tested the cable with an official Samsung AC plug and Samsung phone and it was indeed fast charging with no issues. So providing you have the correct port or plug to generate enough juice then this cable should charge your controller in good time. The 3-meter length is also convenient to allow you to still play whilst charging in most households without having to sit so close to the charging socket.

Secondly and probably more important is the Viper 2.1 HDMI cable. I say more important as I recently discovered the Xbox Series S version of the new Xbox comes with a 2.1 HDMI socket but is only bundled with a 2.0 HDMI cable. Don’t get me wrong that is still high quality, but it is not going to get you the maximum visual potential possible. So it could be that a lot of Xbox Series S owners look to purchase a 2.1 HDMI cable to join the visual ranks of its older brother Xbox Series X. Now I own an Xbox Series X and I also own a TV capable of 4K 120FPS gaming. Running the test from the Xbox settings shows the native Xbox Series X HDMI cable is perfectly able to run in its highest quality as you would expect. The Viper 2.1 HDMI cable can also run at the highest quality as confirmed in the Xbox settings. The quality of the display was immaculate and there is no noticeable difference in display quality between both the cables which is what you would expect to happen. My TV is not 8K compatible however and I don’t have any source of 8K content to verify that capability but I am sure it would be possible.

So functionally both cables deliver what they promise. So the only other thing to talk about is how they look cosmetically. The cables in the pack I was sent were white. I am not sure if they come in other colours but I know that could be a factor for some consumers. Both cables are thick and braided which make them feel robust and less likely to bend and suffer damage. The Viper shaped designs on the ends are nice to have in regards to showcasing the design, but they do feel a bit bulky on the end which is not so bad for the HDMI cable as they all feel a bit bulky at the ends of the cable. But for the USB-C cable, it might have been better to be have been a bit more compact but that is a very minor gripe.

Conclusion

This cable bundle from Gioteck meets all the criteria to be a contender in the market in the cable field. It is high quality and it is robust and at £16.99 it is competitively priced. If you don’t mind white cables and slightly chunkier ends then this cable set might be what you are looking for.

  1. Before getting my XSX I upgraded my television (like yours, it’ll run 4k/120hz). I also decided to buy premium HDMI cables to makes sure everything was ready for the next gen. My Series X arrived, I hooked everything up, and it actually hurt my heart that there were red X’s on the XSX video settings. I couldn’t believe that my new television wasn’t what I paid for. Later that night, on a whim, I replaced my “premium” cable with the one that came with the Series X. All green check marks. I was sure that Microsoft was going to skimp on the cable but it tuned out not to be the case.
Here’s the thing – those HDMI cable listings use a lot of tech buzzwords, and all but say HDMI 2.1. The listings can be misleading, confusing, inaccurate, and (I think) intentionally deceptive. I’m pretty sure that I don’t need another USB C cable, but I can definitely use the HDMI 2.1 cable, which was tested and verified by a site and reviewer that I trust. In short, thanks a bunch for this review.
