August 2025 Games To Watch

Each month, we like to look ahead and pick out a few titles that catch our eye to highlight; be it big AAA or solo-dev indie, we’re always looking for the next cool thing to play and share with you! Let us know in the comments if there’s anything this month that you’re looking forward to!

August 8th
Mafia: The Old Country – 2K/Hangar 13

Taking a more paired back approach to the Mafia series in having a more linear, narrative focus, this prequel sees us experiencing the origins of the Sicilian Mafia. The third entry in the series divided fans, but can this latest attempt win back those who were lost?

August 26th
Gears of War: Reloaded – Xbox Game Studios/The Coalition

Despite getting a remaster on the Xbox One several years ago, Marcus Fenix is back in this Reloaded upspuff of the original Gears of War. We’re big fans of the original game here, and having it all new and shiny has us itching to get back to fighting General Raam all over again.

August 26th
Helldivers 2 – Playstation Publishing/Arrowhead Games

In what we hope is the beginning of true play-it-anywhere gaming, popular Playstation 5 title Helldivers 2 is coming to Xbox! Team Green could only look on with mild envy as players got to fight for Super Earth last year, and with it coming to Xbox at last, with crossplatform play we can finally join the ranks and fend off the alien invasion.

August 28th
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – Konami

I give my life, Not for honor, but for you ‘Snake Eater’. Easily one of the most iconic theme songs in gaming returns this August thanks to the stunning looking remake of the beloved MGS3: Snake Eater. Several of the Tavern team are itching to get their hands on this, and from what has been shown, this looks like a truly deep remake of Kojima’s seminal stealth action game.

I've been gaming since Spy vs Spy on the Master System, growing up as a Sega kid before realising the joy of multi-platform gaming. These days I can mostly be found on smaller indie titles, the occasional big RPG and doing poorly at Rainbow Six: Siege. Gamertag: Enaksan
