Xbox Tavern’s Ones to Watch: April 2025

April 8th
South of Midnight – Compulsion Games

This one has been a long time coming, but we finally get our hands on Compulsion Games’ latest effort. South of Midnight immediately captured our attention with it’s stunning style, and further looks have only piqued our interest more. With just a week or so to wait until the early access release, there’s not long to wait to see if this can live up to our expectations.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Sandfall Interactive

Another big Game Pass day one release, and yet another huge game to play this early into the year. Clair Obscur has been on some of the crews wishlists for some time, promising deep RPG systems with a more hands on battle system that requires timed inputs for damage and defence and some incredible visuals to back it all up. I’m personally not usually one for turn-based games, but even I’m keeping an eye on this one. If it plays as well as it looks we could be in for something very special indeed.

Croc Legend of the Gobbos Remastered – Argonaut Games

Now look; when I first saw this remaster announcement I was a bit bewildered. I’m old enough to have been about for the Sega Saturn release of this and, weird invisibility bug (where Croc would only half load in if we booted up the game the normal way) aside, it was never a particularly great game. However, nostalgia is a hell of a drug, and so I’m definitely curious to see how it fares in 2025 and whether this remaster can iron out many of the issues I had with the 1997 release.

A slightly lighter month in terms of quantity, but with two big Game Pass releases adding onto our backlog that’s already multiple games long we’re not complaining too much! Anything coming this month that grabs your attention? Let us know in the comments or on socials!

I've been gaming since Spy vs Spy on the Master System, growing up as a Sega kid before realising the joy of multi-platform gaming. These days I can mostly be found on smaller indie titles, the occasional big RPG and doing poorly at Rainbow Six: Siege. Gamertag: Enaksan
