Xbox Tavern’s One to Watch: October 2024

Life is Strange: Double Exposure – Square Enix

I’m a big choose your own adventure fan, and between The Walking Dead and Life is Strange, I’ve had more than enough good stuff to play. Revealed earlier this year, Double Exposure brings fan favourite characters Max Caulfield back, in a new location and with new people to worry about, as well as a new twist on her time-manipulation powers. I can’t wait to see how Deck Nine Games handle Max’s past as well as her new future, and the small amount we’ve seen seems to promise the same entertaining writing and scenarios the series is know for.

Call of Duty: Black Op IV – Activision

This is it; the first big release from ActiBlizzXbox since the acquisition completed, and not only is it the next title in the ever-popular Black Ops series, but it’s coming to Game Pass day one. Like the game or not, there’s no doubt this is a huge deal and it will be fascinating to see how the launch compares to the usual fanfare of the last decade plus. This is only going to be helped by a very well received multiplayer beta last month, one I enjoyed way more than I expected (and I even got MPV Graham on board too!). No matter what happens, it’s hard not to expect things to change one way or another by the end of the month.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – EA

I like to try and focus this page each month on a variety of smaller games, but October is not fucking around when it comes to the big guns. Dragon Age is finally back, one decade and title change later. Early looks seem promising, but there’s also been some consternation over some of the design choices (the art style and lack of true open world being two key ones). We know at the very least Special Guest Pete will be delivering his verdict on it one way or another, as long as he’s finished his umpteenth playthrough of Inquisition by then…

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero – Bandai Namco

There’s no shortage of Dragon Ball games to play, across a variety of genres, but Sparking! Zero is aiming for the players who remember the awesomeness of Budokai Tenkaichi, the tremendous PS2 arena fighters. Tech has come a long way, and the 3D models are more accurate to the 2D anime than ever, and the roster has only increased too since the early 2000’s with all manner of Super Sayain God Super Sayain’s to choose from. Can it be as well recieved as the excellent Dragon Ball FighterZ? Find out next time, on Xbox Tavern!

I've been gaming since Spy vs Spy on the Master System, growing up as a Sega kid before realising the joy of multi-platform gaming. These days I can mostly be found on smaller indie titles, the occasional big RPG and doing poorly at Rainbow Six: Siege. Gamertag: Enaksan
