Episode 4’s climax left us looking forward to the final episode in the series. The Expanse has taken on a rollercoaster of emotions, which could make or break the series. We started so well in the opening few minutes of the story having to make a huge choice, which I was not expecting to make, especially so early on in the game. The massive choices didn’t stop there either, it felt like with every dialogue option someone with either being saved or killed. Each thought-out decision could have massive repercussions for how the story would end. I don’t want to go into too much detail as it would spoil the spectacular episode. For gameplay, there was nothing new, which for the most part was a shame, however, there was no way they could add a new mechanic into this high-action final story.
I wanted to have the whole story sit with me for a week before I wrote this, overall The Expanse is an excellent story over the 5 episodes. There is an argument to have, that you could have cannibalised episode 5 into the other episode making them all around the same length in playtime. However, if you take the Telltale games like a TV series, you have some episodes that really slow down the pace and then ramp up in other sections. I believe this is how, the series is as a whole should be taken, not like a Triple-A game, where the highs and lows are spread out over the course of 15 – 50 hours of gameplay. The Expanse has done the team well and I am very happy I got to experienced the story telling.
Conclusion
The Expanse: A Teltale Series – Episode 5 ends the season on a spectacular high, rounding off the story with not only excellent beats but non stop, intense experiences. The entire series has been excellent overall, and is more than worth a high recommendation.
