Milli & Greg Review

Coming from indie developer 2nd Boss and publisher QUByte Interactive, Milli & Greg is an action-adventure platforming effort that brings hardcore platforming to the ever-faithful masochistic fans out there – just in case we didn’t have enough already!

The minimalist narrative focus shines on our protagonist Milli, who must venture out to find her lost fluffball and beloved pet cat, Greg. Losing him is a frequent affair, but to find him, you must first overcome the gargantuan task of defeating more than 100 hand-crafted levels of pure brutish difficulty. The things we do for animals!

Each time you pass 25 fiendish levels, you’ll come across a new chapter, with 4 main chapters in total, as well as 2 additional level sets included in the Lost Levels and the Black and White Levels.

With similarities to games such as Super Meat Boy or Duck Souls+ in both gameplay and presentation. This beautiful, colourful, and pixelated world brings plenty to fear with spikes, damaging electricity, rotating fiery plasma balls, collapsing platforms and many more hazards you’ll need to avoid.

With each individual level presenting point-to-point gameplay on a single screen, and plenty of hazards to get in the way and send you back to where you started, chances are, like me, you’ll be dying a lot!

Traversing is at least a much easier task with the A button used for jumping and B used to dash, a move which is often a lifesaver in some of the more deadly situations as a last gasp effort. Movement can be done with either the analogue stick or the D-Pad, and whilst neither will stop the struggle, those who are willing to run the old school route and use the D-Pad are likely to find things easier, especially when reaching some of those finicky and hard to reach areas.

Conclusion

Milli & Greg may not be the next big blockbuster title, but with polished gameplay, cute and creative visuals, and a fine soundtrack to boot, this is definitely a game that you need in your library, as has been mentioned in the video above, Milli & Greg comes in at rather palatable £3.29, which is less than a cup of coffee in some places! So there is no reason not to add this little gem to your collection.

After many years of dabbling and failing in Dark Souls and many other equally brutal gaming adventures, I can now be found in a state of relaxation, merely hunting for a little extra gamerscore or frightening myself with the latest Resident Evil - Sometimes I write about it too!
