Greak: Memories of Azur Review

Greak: Memories of Azur is a side scrolling single-player adventure with hand-drawn animations. You will take on the role of three siblings: Greak, Adara and Raydel to guide them through the lands of Azur. Alternate control between them and use their unique abilities to escape from the Urlag invasion.

I want to get a few little annoyances over and done with first. To start with, some enemies respawn if you stand still for too long which is a pain in the arse, especially when you are trying to solve puzzles that need you to move beams of light. The other is as the story unfolds you need to complete fetch quests to progress. These fetch quests are frustrating – as they usually are – however needed for the way the story is told. A few less wouldn’t have gone amiss though.

Now that’s out of the way, I want to express just how much I enjoyed the game overall. Navegante Entertainment have done a great job of nailing a fun puzzle platformer, and the story is well written, making it easy to get caught up in the plight of Greak as he searches for his brother and sister.

Gameplay is wonderful, with very tight controls as you traverse the map and engage in combat. There’s a nice quirk in Greak in that you can control all three family members at once. By holding LT you can move them to help solve puzzles or in combat.

Conclusion

All in all, there’s a lot to like about Greak: Memories of Azur. Combat is fun, traversal is engaging and the tale is told well, with the plight of the characters really sucking you in. There’s a little too much fetch questing going on for my liking, and those respawning enemies can do one, but on the whole this is something worth checking out.

Gaming used to be about playing Championship Manager ,but then I was introduced to consoles and I fell in love with Xbox 360. Xbox has always been my console of choice. Catch me on Apex or Call of Duty. Gamertag/Twitter: Chocolatebear80
